Book of Commons

There are about forty paintings in this series that I've added to over decades. They refer to my fascination with ancient manuscripts, historic palimpsests, and scientific information which often contain cryptic content, indecipherable script, and arcane images. Like the books that inspire this work, many of these pieces offer similar speculation about their mysterious content. On top of layers of eroded color, the imagery often includes recognizable realism, geometric diagrams, scientific text and mathematical formulas, and fragments of poetry. Unusual connections and construed meaning can be playfully made sometimes even between disparate combinations.
